'The '22,' Ponsonby replied, bowing. 'It was thought to be finished but a bottle was found in the cellar where it oughtn't to have been the other day. I'm glad it is to your taste, sir.'
'Major Bigglesworth' said Von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

"You're a good man, Ponsonby," Algy beamed. He held up his goblet. "Top 'em up. I can see the Major has already finished his."

Ponsonby did so.

'Pour yourself one and join us,' Algy suggested. 'And tell us if you've had any more thoughts on where the kids might have left the bits we are looking for.'

Ponsonby, used to Algy's carefree ways, poured himself a very small brandy and perched on the edge of a chair, where he could see through the door to the door of the Yellow Salon across the hall.

'Nothing of any use, I'm afraid , sir. Miss Lettice's offspring tend not to play in the areas I am, due to their tendency to noise and damage. They are most often found outside or in the attics. That's not to say that they don't take it into their heads to ride teatrays down the front stairs, sometimes, but generally Lady Lacey prefers them out of her hearing.'

For once Algy was in complete agreement with his mother.

"Well, can you get all the staff to keep their eyes open for our missing items, tomorrow. Those br...kids must have put them somewhere." Biggles asked Ponsonby.
Algy noted his line of sight and smiled "We''ll just finish these and go into join m'mother"

Ponsonby coughed discreetly. "The billiard table has been set up, sir, should you wish it."
