Bertie Falls In Love

RPG mess abouts. A place to be creative

Bertie Falls In Love

Postby Frecks » 22 May 2018, 08:11

Bertie stood to one side in the Mess at Rawlham admiring the lovely young WAAF Delivery Pilot who had just flown in with a brand new Spitfire for the CO. He had never considered himself a ladies man and certainly not an emotional one but this girl was just beautiful and she was stirring up feelings in his heart he never thought he would have experienced.

Would anyone like to take this RPG forward?

He stepped forward
"Welcome to 666, and our Mess. May I get you a refreshment ?" he asked politely
"I'm sure the CO will be along in a moment"

Beside him, Algy gave him a puzzled sidelong glance.

Taffy and Tex, who had been watching, also stepped forward, Tex elbowing Bertie out of the way.

"Never mind him," He started, lifting the girl's hand and tucking it into his elbow. "What you need is real conversation. How long have you got before you have to go back? Can I give you a lift to the station?"

Biggles had been watching as he approached,
"Gentlemen ! my ferry pilot, I believe ..."
With a smile, he escorted he towards the Mess Bar.
"May I introduce Lord Lissie, he can look after you for me, while I get Flight to look after the Spit"

Bertie, absolutely delighted at this turn of events, took the young lady to a table by the fire and beckoned a steward over. "Now, I can't just call you Flying Officer Whatchamacallit, can I? No, by jove, that's too much of a bally mouthful. I'm Bertie. What's your name? "

The girl seemed quite overwhelmed at all this attention and blushed. She wondered how to best reply, given the circumstances.
"For goodness sake stop that Yankee drawl, or you'll have us all doing it before you've finished."
"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."
"That's better."

But she hadn't overcome all odds to be a Ferry pilot for nothing and she liked the man sitting beside her. "My name is Felicity. Felicity Fellowes, but most people call me Fliss."

'Very nice hands,' Bertie said, 'the way you dropped her down. Do you ride?'
'Major Bigglesworth' said Von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

Soon there was quite a gathering. Henry established that she was to get a train back to her Base and there were many offers of lifts to the station, , even from those officers who didn't have any transport.

Bertie wandered off. Algy looked surprised, but gratified, as he could pull rank on the others, Angus being away. But this was short-lived when Bertie returned with Towser. "Thought I'd give the little fella an airing," He announced, "as I drive you to the station."

Algy and Ginger watched Bertie drive off with Fliss, Towser on her knee and his head out of the open window, tongue lolling. "I've never seen him like this before," Ginger remarked. "He'll be walking into a prop if he's not careful."

There was a longer wait than they expected at the Railway Station, so Bertie took Fliss into the buffet for tea and a sticky bun.
Towser lay on the floor, looking up adoringly at his new friend.
