WW2 GB discussion

Postby VickersVandal » 01 May 2017, 13:06

Hello all. I've been pretty absent for a while I realise. My new job is to blame. Anyway, I remembered that we're due for a WW2 build over June-July if we were to stick to our 2 per year schedule. However, realistically I don't think I can run one. I didn't even complete my build in the last one :( and I am committed to running a Sopwith Camel 100 year anniversary GB on the UAMF in June, which will absorb the tiny amount of hobby time I will have.

Are people still keen? If so, is anyone happy to put their hand up to drive it? I could create the subforum but I wouldn't have the time in June to be GB leader. What do people think? Go ahead or postpone it til Dec-Jan?

We could delay this one to say August-September if you were available after your other commitments, perhaps pushing one after that till after Christmas?

Happy to push it out as well and see what life is throwing at me then.
I didn't even get to unpack the last model.

Life doesn't seem to have been gentle to many of us this year. For me it will get a lot worse before it gets better.

Later in the year we can talk about who would like to be group build leader and decide on a good time. Anyone is welcome to start that process. Don't feel you need to wait for me :).

I quite agree on gaffing this off for a bit. Been busy with re-fitting our kitchen, and with planning some excavations for this summer. I'll be gone late July and early August, but should be back in the loop mid-August.

No flap, chaps. It's far better to wait until everyone has a chance to actually enjoy it. The forum isn't going to go away.

So, WW2 group build over December-January? Would people be keen?

I am running a Fokker Triplane group build elsewhere over October, so nothing is happening til after that, but December is looking pretty clear.

Sounds good to me. My life has been hectic, to say the least, for a year now. I managed the last interwar GB but it was touch and go. Since then life has intensified if anything, and I had no hope at all of doing anything for the originally proposed July/August build. December ought to be a goer, and I look forward to the usual inspiring efforts by all concerned. Thanks VV for resurrecting the GB programme.

I just realised December is already upon us! Time flies when you're having a relentlessly horrible time at work...

So who is still interested in going ahead? If there are enough hands up, I'll set up the forum and we can run this until the end of Jan.

Hello VV, and thanks for still being there for the BF group builds, in spite of your workload. My year has been diabolical and is only now easing up.

As regards the proposed WW2 build, I am keen to participate. I would sound a caution, though: we are on the slippery slope to Christmas. My pick is that most of us will be increasingly distracted now until after New Year. Could I suggest that whatever the start date, we set a finish for February rather than January. I'm pretty sure I won't get a look at a model till 2018, but things should improve rapidly thereafter.

Confession: I haven't even bought a model for the build - I've only had half a year to think about it! Heading now to ebay to try for something suitable.

Best wishes to all for the festive season.

Yes, wise words. It will be the same for me - I have a number of other modelling projects I am focusing on over December and there is of course the madness of the Christmas period. Happy to run it Jan-Feb if that will work.
Sorry to hear that your work has been horrible too. I have chosen to take a step back from my position to not have the administration and management load, so I'm looking forward to a more sane working life next year.

I'd like to know that we have more confirmed parties on board before setting up the GB forum, so we'll see who throws their lot in between now and January.

Thanks, tiff.

So that's 2, maybe 3 so far. Definitely need more signed up to make it worthwhile. Will give it a bit longer and see if the timing will work for any others.

I'm certainly still interested. Because everyone seems to be busy at present, perhaps running it over a longer time frame might help.

That's sounding promising. Glad to have you in, bbg and Wanderer.
Four definite, one possible now. That's a go-er. How about I set up the forum now and we aim for a finish by the end of February. If things are looking really dire for anyone at that point we can look at an extension, though my general preference for these is not to let them run too long as they can easily lose momentum past the 1.5 month mark.

I've decided to do my SEAC Hurricane for Orient.....unless Mrs Vandal happens to pick up on some of the dropped hints and a Liberator ends up under the Christmas tree ;)

I think I'll be doing a Lysander, which appears at the very tail end of "Sweeps the Desert".
