I did see it, (posted a comment in chat). Thought it was fascinating for so many reasons.
Very inexperienced pilots, difficult (to put it mildly, landing strips) volatile ever changing weather, unpredictable people doing random things, getting given chickens, the possibility of being eaten....

I shall be glued to the box for next weeks episode. It's sort of 'Cruise of the Condor' reality tv.
Glued.

Yes we watched it. Not only do they have to cope with all the weather, landing conditions etc. but some of the natives are cannibals and if they crash they could well be eaten :o

Unable to view it on my iPhone sadly, but reminds me of a programme I watched in Oz a few mths ago: 'World's Worst Airports' or some such title. They counted down the 10 worst airports in the world [only experienced pilots are allowed to land on most of them due to length, mountains, crosswinds, fog, major cities etc], but the No. 1 which really made my stomach go to water was the one in Nepal, where you only have one approach 'attempt', otherwise you either A. Crash into a precipitous cliff if you land too low, or B. If you are going too fast, you crash into the mountain, due to the extremely short runway. Absolutely hair raising, must make pilot's hair go grey! :?

If memory serves, there was a terrible crash there in ?2011, due to fog at ground level & the plane landed 2 or 3 metres below the level of the runway with catastrophic force, & subsequent loss of lives.

I didn't see this programme, but it looks very interesting.

Thanks for posting it, vZ - it's great that we can share Biggles-y things, that we have watched and would recommend, on the Forum, where people will certainly appreciate it.

Aw! Thank you. I found it on the internet and thought it looked too adorable to not be my avatar. :coffee:

I've very fond of Winnie the Pooh, and a lot of A. A. Milne's writing for that matter - his poetry is so clever. Tigger is probably the funniest character. Eeyore has to be my favourite, though, followed closely by Pooh bear. Sometimes I just :imao: at the humour...

(Tigger and Roo are stuck up a tree, and Piglet and Pooh are trying to work out how to rescue them.)
"Piglet," said Pooh solemnly, when had heard all this, "what shall we do?" And he began to eat Tigger's sandwiches.
"Are they stuck?" asked Piglet anxiously.
Pooh nodded.
"Couldn't you climb up to them?"
"I might, Piglet, and I might bring Roo down on my back, but I couldn't bring Tigger down. So we must think of something else." And in a thoughtful way he began to eat Roo's sandwiches, too.

:aheart: :claphappy:

Anyway, :backtotopic:

Yes, I think a lot of the subtle & dry humour went over our heads as kids. And now I've totally derailed this topic, hehe. What were we talking about? 8-)

:backtotopic: Kinda.

When I went to my cousin's wedding in the Bahamas, we landed at a little place called Marsh Harbour, which has, as one might expect from the name, a large marshy harbour.

As I mentioned in a prior thread, I had missed my connection due to an ice-storm in the midwest and I was flown over by a friend of the family in a 4-seater Piper Cub. It was an amazing Biggles moment. But that's besides the point.

Anyway, as we were coming in to land, I noticed a couple of airplane pieces poking up out of the marsh. I asked the pilot about them. He told me that the drug-runners would ditch their planes in the marsh if they were being chased and then someone would be waiting with a boat to pick up the contraband. All I could think was Where's Biggles when you need him?

No, I think that may have been the tv documentary, but this is one of the pilots that flies there.
I chose the clip without the er, interesting traditional local costume in the first shot.
