Neil 'Biggles' Dickson as 007?

Postby Crazy Man Michael » 22 Feb 2015, 21:54

I've been watching the 1990 comedy - horror TV series 'She-Wolf Of London' starring 'Biggles' actor Neil Dickson as Professor Ian Mattheson, a university lecturer specialising in anthropology / mythology and a young American student, Randi Wallace who, after being bitten while camping on 'the moors', becomes the titular beast.
I was surprised by the quality of Dickson's acting. He was good in 'Biggles', but the script didn't give him too much to do. In this series he turns out to be a terrific light comedy actor, a dashing romantic lead and a solid dramatic actor, as the occasion demands. I think he would have made a great James Bond for the 1990s. Has anybody else seen this series or Dickson's other work, and what did you think?

BTW Episode 5 'Nice Girls Don't' is a simple story of London escort girls who turn out to be supernatural youth-stealing succubi. In order to trap them, the dashing professor must allow himself to be seduced by a succession of voloptuous young women while Randi waits in a wardrobe. The double entendres come thick and fast (so to speak) and one of the agency girls is played by Francesca ('Allo 'Allo) Gonshaw who, you will recall, appeared with Dickson in Biggles, as the air ace's perfidious sweetheart.

Incidentally, Neil Dickson would have made a great James Bond.

I have seen/heard him without being aware it was him. Just looked up his website and wiki entry.
This is one actor who appears to have sailed under the radar.

He has a brief cameo in the comedy "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion", which has long been a favorite of mine. I watched it for years without realizing Neil was in it until I was looking at his imdb.com profile to see what else he'd been in.

He was just how I imagined Biggles in the 1986 film. He still looks like Biggles too:

Older Biggles in a new Special Air Police series? :D

I think Neil Dickson is a highly underrated actor.
Quick! Untie us before they realise you're not a God, you're just an American. (From that film!)

Here's the link to his IMDB profile: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0225698/?ref_=nmmd_md_nm

I'm intrigued that I can buy the whole set of "She Wolf of London" on DVD from Amazon for a mere $12. I think I might just indulge.

Fascinating! I quite liked Neil Dickson in 'That Movie', & quite agree he would have made a great 90's Bond! [he is sooo British, & I mean that in the nicest possible way, lol].
:D ;)
They've been working together for so long that each seems to know by a sort of telepathy when another is in trouble. One never seems to get them together. Get one & the others come after him. To give the devil his due they make a formidable team.

I only watched the first couple of minutes, but I laughed out loud at the dramatic removal of sunglasses.

It's great fun, Kylie, I'm loving it....so much that I only watch one or two episodes a week in an effort to make it last.

Thanks for the heads up!

It's nice to see Dickson again, but a bit of a shame that it has to be in such a cheapo production.

Yesterday my best coworker friend was out sick, so I watched the first episode of "She Wolf of London" over my lunch hour.

It's quite fun, I must admit, and I do like Neil Dickson.

Okay, you got me curious so I had a look on youtube for 'She-Wolf'. Yes, Dickson is excellent. I can quite see him as a SAP period Biggles. Also, yes to James Bond; he has the essential quality of humour for Bond. 8-)
If there's one thing certain in this uncertain world it is that Algy won't go home without us.
