Biggles Card Game

Postby kylie_koyote » 25 Apr 2014, 16:05

I saw this on eBay today and I was wondering if anybody has it, and if so, what your thoughts are on it. It's currently at around $33 (US) and I don't know if that's a decent price for this or not.

Thoughts?

I have not heard of it. Most of the cards look like illustrations from the books. I wonder how many cards there are and what you do with them. It seems rather expensive.

Yes, and the shipping to the US is almost the price of the item all over again. I have never heard of this before either, and although I like the illustrations, I think it's too much money for me.

It says it's a rummy type game, which is where you collect sets and runs of playing cards (eg 3 fours and ace, two, three). I think it is basically a set of cards, although maybe with fewer than 52 cards and a couple of extra rules.

I have it but I've never got past looking at the cards!

I'd spend a few pounds on the set but not that much.

I have it and the pictures are indeed illustrations from the books, so it's worth having for that. I've never actually tried playing the game, though. :D You should be able to pick it up cheaper than that - it crops up on Ebay fairly regularly.

One other thing - if you do buy a pack, make sure it still has the instruction leaflet as well in case you do want to give the game a go! :)

There's a couple of these listed at the moment, though not much cheaper than the one KK originally saw.

Thanks for the heads up...don't have it myself. There was a thread a while back on the Biggles jigsaws, are these more scarce/expensive than the card games?

The jigsaws appear to be very rare, and expensive when one does come up. The card game's fairly easy to get hold of.

I think it's descibed in a bit more detail here, including photos of the instructions and cards!

The thing that irks me about these games is that they have no Algy (presumably he was left to answer the phone on both occasions  ). I wonder too why they chose In the Blue and Dark Intruder to make the games when there are arguably more interesting books to make games out of.

Also, I wonder if we could come up with some board game format (with Algy, needless to say) and perhaps make some personalized Biggles game that only forum members would own (since we wouldn't be selling it, maybe it wouldn't matter as much that we're making Biggles games of our own?) I know a couple of board gamers who make their own board games and maybe I could ask them how they do it. Anyone interested?

You can get Make your own Monopoly sets where you can personalise all the houses, utilities and so on. You could probably do something with that, if you wanted.

True, but that would still sort of be Monopoly. I was thinking something along the lines of a new game format. It feels like an exciting new project to me, but then maybe I'm just deluded...

You could write completely new rules for it.

i had a friend who tried inventing some board games. It was quite entertaining trying them out, but snags always became apparent. Also making a reasonable board and playing pieces was very time consuming. It might be easier adapting something that already exists.

Anyway, with Monopoly there's a chance we can get Algy out of jail, Soppy......
