Biggles Air Ace - where can I read the stories

Postby Grunt » 01 Dec 2017, 06:25

As a limited edition, this book of uncollected stories is rare and expensive, so I don't anticipate ever owning or even getting my hands on a copy. Nor do I really need a physical copy; my main interest to be able to read the stories it contains to ensure I have not missed any victories in my compilation of Biggles "score".

So...

Can anyone offer suggestions where I can locate and read these stories at an affordable cost (or better yet, free like borrowing from the library!)

Most of them appeared in serialization in Modern Boy and you can sometimes find the individual issues going on eBay for not very much. They also appear in the "Annual" of the magazines, that is like a book with all the issues for that year. I have one of these. It's very big and heavy.

Grunt, here's the info on which individual issues from Dr. Biggles' site: http://www.biggles.info/Details/98/

I don't know why these stories were not published again until Norman Wright collected them. I think they are very good and they do tell you a lot about Biggles and Algy. I read them all in magazines. By the time I found Norman he had sold out and the price had shot up because people just bought them to sell on for a lot of money.
If there's one thing certain in this uncertain world it is that Algy won't go home without us.

Are they available in pdf form anywhere?
Like Grunt I just want to read them once.
I thought I saw some on the International Biggles Association site but always sold out (and probably in Dutch)

If you can find the ones the Dutch group sold, they are printed in both English and Dutch.

Worth checking out TROVE as well, as many stories made it into the Aussie newspapers.
Whether or not they were Air Ace stories, I don't know.
