Meanwhile...back in Australia

Very general discussion about absolutely anything at all, go wildly off topic and chuck stuff about. Chit-chat. Witty banter. Crash air-planes. Bring your own "lemonade"

When I'm bored, or want a good laugh with the grandkids, I just type in 'funny cat videos' on Youtube...hours of laughing till it hurts...or is it just me who enjoys cats falling off tables etc? :?

You are not alone. Funny cat videos are how I communicate with my offspring now they are all at university. I'm particularly fond of the ones where the cat fits itself into an unlikely container.

It's been 4 months since the last post here & something vaguely 'interesting' happening in Australia, & though this apparently occurred 2 years ago, it was not far from here [i.e. Sunshine Coast, Queensland], & I simply name this Event "Snake 1-Bat 0 ". :o  :toomuchcoffee:

Oh, WOW. A winged serpent. I love the snake pics that are posted on here. And koalas. Koalas are cute, too.

I don't have any pictures, but a friend of Mr RSG's living right here in Pine Rivers (north side of the Greater Brisbane area), posted on FB two days ago that he'd walked out into his back yard to see a large carpet snake starting to consume a fruit bat. Right then an over-ambitious kookaburra swooped on the snake causing it to lose interest in the bat and it slithered off into the depths of his garden. He rang the RSPCA to ask what he should do about the bat (which was still alive - more or less) and they said it should be fine. Which, apparently, it is. The bat has now returned to eating the pawpaws and mangos from his fruit trees :D The snake is probably keeping an eye on it from the garden and the kookaburra is doubtless watching from the heights of its gum tree home working on mass vs velocity equations.

Eek!

We found a small snake in our yard this past Saturday. It was just a little garden snake, and harmless, but it caused lots of shrieking and panic until I reminded my husband to keep it together for the sake of our five year old.
"For goodness sake stop that Yankee drawl, or you'll have us all doing it before you've finished."
"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."

This afternoon our neighbour came over to let us know he'd seen a snake in his back yard when he got home. Not sure what type, but the unusually warm weather we're having here at the moment means they're out and about. Yay!

Not as sweet as the one eating the bat. I like fat snakes, not thin snakes. I note that your newspapers also tell us that families are 'terrorised' when in reality they don't seem to be much more than mildly surprised and a little shocked.

Ah yes, you refer of course to the recently discovered manuscript & hitherto completely unknown horror story, written by the late, great C.S. Lewis: "The Kookaburra, The Snake, The Fruit Bat AND the Killer Koala, the Aussie Adventure". 8-)

Inspired by the kangaroo seen at Bathurst this year [i.e. racing cars on the sideline, lol], I found this footage on Youtube from 2007's "Big Race"...wow, this has to be the luckiest kangaroo in the history of Australia! :toomuchcoffee: :toomuchcoffee: :toomuchcoffee: :truce: :truce: :truce:

The more sensitive among you might wish to avoid watching the next autoplay clip, 'Jim Richards hits a kangaroo at Bathurst', which is pretty graphic. I remember watching it live on TV at the time, and they kept replaying it for a while until they realised that there were probably little kiddies watching who really didn't need to have that in their faces!
