Meanwhile...back in Australia

Very general discussion about absolutely anything at all, go wildly off topic and chuck stuff about. Chit-chat. Witty banter. Crash air-planes. Bring your own "lemonade"

That's ...interesting. it's rather intriguing really. Fascinating how far snakes can open their jaws.

It's the reverse peristalsis that fascinates me.

I remember at school some 6th formers wanted to know if people had reverse peristalsis so they hung a first-former upside down by his ankles and made him eat a cream bun.

Yes - he successfully ingested the cream bun with no repercussions, and was released back into the wild.

Soooo...Mr RSG is up in Mareeba (Nth Queensland) doing some Avionics work for MAF and I flew up to spend the weekend with him. Last night we were having dinner with friends who casually mentioned there's a rather large snake living in their roof. I immediately thought - Oh please, not a Taipan! Even these laid back folk wouldn't be sharing their home with that kind of nasty. Phew!! No, it's just a python. They're happy because it's dealt with their sparrow problem :o  :? And, of course, prevents any potential mice problems. Then one of the teenage sons of the house proudly showed me the skin their houseguest had recently shed. (Found IN the living area, not up in the roof.) I don't think they'll have any possum problems in that house!!!!!

Meanwhile, in the last 24hrs, sharks are getting washed up on local streets in Queensland...think again before swimming, BUT, it's no longer safe to go walking either:

Nice to see evolution in action: life will be even more exciting for you in Australia if the local sharks become amphibious.

Now this snake got up a bit too close and friendly!!! The first one was here in SE Qld. But the second one was reported a couple of weeks ago - about a man on one of the Indonesian islands who was eaten whole by a very large python. Horrible!!

      http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/queensland-snakes-girl-9-wakes-with-25m-python-coiled-on-her-arm-during-moreton-island-camping-trip/news-story/73d7f6309cde70157b548335264a8a81?utm_source=The+Courier+Mail&utm_mediam=email&utm_campaign=editorial

      This is the second one:
      http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2017/03/python-snake-swallows-man-whole-indonesia/

Maybe Biggles and Co were very, very fortunate in their encounters with pythons...

And for those into spiders, some recent discoveries have even made the British press:

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/ ... found.html

The species has not yet been formally described and named. Mygalomorphae is the infra-order of spiders they belong to (trap doors, funnel webs, tarantulas etc), Barychelidae the group and Idiomata (brush-footed trapdoor spiders) the genus.

      And even closer to home:

      http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-04-13/n ... ia/8441740

Biggles and Co. are also lucky to have avoided these in their travels, though they did encounter formidable spiders on more than one occasions. Biggles' encounter with one in Takes a Holiday leads to effects that sound suspiciously similar to the narcotic encountered in In the Orient and Ginger's misfortunes in Another Job...
