Very general discussion about absolutely anything at all, go wildly off topic and chuck stuff about. Chit-chat. Witty banter. Crash air-planes. Bring your own "lemonade"

We have on a previous thread noted the non-contemporary existence of a genuine 266 squadron. Whilst researching Battle of Britain airfield information I noted with interest that this squadron in 1940 was commanded by Squadron Leader Wilkinson. Would Biggles be pleased or horrified?

Possibly at some point a Squadron Leader Bigglesworth was in charge of a 287?

Although...Biggles was travelling around the world with Algy and Ginger in 1940, and everyone in the old 266 was scattered across the globe (as evidenced in Flies South). So it wasn't really "his" squadron anymore. Just "a" squadron.

Are we overthinking this?

Did squadrons change their numbers and join together like the Army Battalions?

Probably if they lost quite a lot of pilots or if there wasn't the need for two separate units.

"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."
"That's better."
