Algy and his Broomstick

Re: Algy and his Broomstick

After they had sorted out the brooms, they crossed over the lawn to the back door and slipped inside.
Algy had his broom tucked under his arm, having allowed the greeting.
Alex looked around, then picked his briefcase up from then floor and collected the loose papers.
He looked at Megan.
"I think I had better be going now, and I'll ring you before dropping around again, just in case"

An exhausted Megan nodded. 'Yes, that would be best.'

An equally exhausted Algy was ringing Biggles to say he wouldn't be home that night.
'Major Bigglesworth' said Von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

Megan needed to have some food, probably high in protein and a bath, followed by a good night's sleep.
In fact, they both needed the same, Algy decided.

He looked at her wrist, the mark was still there but now seemed peaceful and relaxed.

Algy looked in her larder and fetched out a tin with crackers and a couple of hunks of cheese and dumped them on the table before rummaging through her cupboards for knives and plates. It was hard to believe, but he thought that he was slightly less tired than Megan and so ought to do the domestic thing.

"Hey, that scratches," He complained, good-naturedly. He looked around. "Where's Alex?"

"He's already gone, to be honest, Alex has never been that good at coping with magic happening around him." Megan yawned her reply, then devoted most of her attention to the cheese.

Algy felt much better after a long hot shower. He found some clean pyjamas in a drawer and crawled into a bed, his broom laid across the foot. He dreamt he was flying.

He slept dreamlessly until he was woken up by his broom, tge bristles stroking his face. He looked at his watch. It was eight o' clock. With an oath he leapt out of bed and dashed to the bathroom.

His broom went with him and rubbed against his back whilst he cleaned his teeth and shaved with a disposable razor.

It was a lovely fresh morning. Algy and his broom raced around the perimeter of the field joyously. Algy retained just enough sense to stay below the top of the high hedges so that he wouldn't accidentally startle the postman.

Unfortunately, all too soon he had to return the broom to its shed and go in for breakfast. He had rung Biggles to say he was going to be a little late, figuring that a trip to Ancient Egypt was a good excuse for his tardiness.

Algy ate industrial quantities of Megan's home made muesli topped with creamy milk, followed by home-made marmalade on homemade bread. He washed it down with several cups of herbal tea and barely noticed it wasn't the stuff he usually drank.

Megan watched him, amused.

'You better move a spare set of pyjamas and your wash stuff into one of the rooms,' she suggested. 'The steeplechase season opens in a month. Practice nights are Wednesdays and Fridays and you'll be too tired to go home afterwards until you are more accustomed to riding your broom at speed over long distances and rough terrain.'

Algy was very happy as he went to work that morning. Life was good. He was looking forward to steeplechasing on his broom: it sounded amazing fun. He wouldn't mind being left behind to look after the office at all now.

I like the silly ones.

There's nothing to stop us having a sequel at some point. Well, it will be the third one, but you know what I mean. Someone just needs to come up with a new scenario and write it.
