'What have you done?' the unwelcome visitor demanded. 'Now I will have to kill you!'
'Major Bigglesworth' said Von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

Alex squeaked. Algy grabbed the rolling pin and swung it.

Algy blinked.
"For goodness sake stop that Yankee drawl, or you'll have us all doing it before you've finished."
"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."
"That's better."

They were all in, Algy looked quickly about in disbelief, dungeons.

They were still underground, in chambers made from squarely hewn stones, covered with wall paintings. 'Egypt?' Algy thought.

Megan's next actions told him it was. The Eye of Horus was now pulsating on Megan's wrist and she seemed to be listening to an inner voice.

Alex, Algy was pleased to see, was lost for words. The eyes of the shadowman flashed. Algy took a firmer grip of his rolling pin and awaited his moment.

The shadows in the corners of the chamber grew deeper and coalesced. Figures from the wall paintings slid from the walls.

Diffuse columns of light and dark met and roiled around each other. Sometimes one seemed to have the upper hand, sometimes the other. Still, Algy patiently waited for his opportunity.

He had time to reflect on the humour of the situation. That such a prosaic thing as a rolling pin could decide a matter so complex and surreal struck Algy as bizarre, to say the least.

Alex's ropes became loose enough for him to slip them from his wrists. The movement caught the eye of Megan's shadowy adversary and he turned slightly towards Alex. Algy recognised that his moment had come.

The rolling pin came crashing down on the shadow. Megan immediately increased her concentration. The shadow became more distinct as it collapsed to the floor.

The shadows disappeared, the last one or two wrapping themselves securely around the man on the floor. The wall paintings lined the walls once more, although one or two seemed to have returned to a new position.

Algy and Alex both rushed to support Megan, who smiled weakly at them both.
I just need a little bit of your strength to get us home, she whispered.
But first I must ask the eye if it wants to stay here.

Alex opened is mouth to reply but it was obvious that Megan wasn't listening. Algy placed a hand on her shoulder and felt her stiffen. "You'd better hang onto Alex too," she whispered, "Unless he wants to stay here?"

Drawing a deep breath and holding firmly to Algy, Megan asked the eye to take them back to her farmhouse home (and thinking very specifically of the time and address, just in case).

The flash of light this time was more of a kaleidoscope but the clap of thunder was just as loud.

For some reason they materialised in the broom shed. The occupants began to stir, not best pleased with the interruption of their rest.

Algy's broom in particular was disturbed.
