The latest acquisition thread

Postby VickersVandal » 28 Mar 2017, 07:22

Most model forums have some version of this - the thread to trumpet your latest impulsive addition to the model stash :D

I thought I'd kick one off here. It's intended to be primarily about Biggles related kits but feel free to share whatever kit you have added to the stash.

Work has been hellish for almost 3 monthso straight so I cracked and indulged in some retail therapy with a rather expensive resin kit. But it's a Biggles kit so that's OK. ...
Planet Models "Bluewing Jupiter".....OK, Douglas R3D/DC-5 really, but it will be the Jupe.

Nice...will you convert it to tailwheel? I'll probably try a dh flamingo or maybe blackburn botha for the jupiter illusion...not for a while yet though! You have my condolences on your work status. Similar here to the point of imminent voluntary unemployment.

My own retail therapy took the form of a saro cloud which will become the Scud..when I have time. Currently very slowly rebuilding a 40year old Walrus into the Vandal. With current working hours it will be a while.

That's lovely!

Sorry you've both been swamped with work - may it lighten soon and give you time to play with your new acquisition.

I'm part of the way through building the Flies North's "Weinkel 12" or He-111 airliner. Its a Roden 1:72 kit and to put it mildly rather shocking moulding (partly the result of Roden converting a bomber kit to an airliner) but as a 3D sketch it will do fine. It even comes with decals I can fudge into Canadian registration! All you need to do with your DC-5 is to make it look like a steel and canvas structure and a tail wheel... It sits in my mind as something like a Stinson trimotor fuselage with Curtiss Condor nose and DC-2 wings and engines. Urkie Purkie...:-)

I'm a bit obsessed with Sopwiths right now....

Metro Hobbies sells Roden kits criminally cheap. I'm kind of stocking up on them because I never know if they will fold and the kits won't be around anymore.

That's your excuse and you're sticking to it, right?

I am sure you could stop anytime you wanted to:-p

Nice kits, though, I can see why you stocked up on them:-)

It's true though. Model manufacturers come and go and many only do very short production runs of their kits while they are around. There are kits of aircraft I'm interested in that I could have picked up 5 years ago for around $10 which are now only to be found on ebay for three times that or more. I've learnt now to strike while the iron is hot.

Biplane flying boats - one cn never have enough!

Someone was selling this at my local model club monthly meeting today. I've been eyeing it off online for years. It was the reight price considering what I'd have to pay to ship it from Poland otherwise. It was a done deal :)

It's not a Biggles model, but it's darn close!

It does indeed. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished article.

I suspect that's highly unlikely  but that won't put me off.

One of my fellow UAMF compatriots put one together during a group build, which has been an inspiration to this day:
