Christmas in Mount Street

Biggles wandered around the Yard at will in his festive waistcoat. Now he was in clothes that didn't matter, not a speck of glitter came his way.
'Major Bigglesworth' said Von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

The Typing Pool thought the festive raiment of the SAP was far superior to that of the other departments and lost no time in letting everyone know.

'Nice crackers,' one of the typing pool told Algy.
'Would you like to pull one?' Algy grinned, producing one of his mini crackers from his pocket.

The bang was disproportionate, and she said so, indignantly, when she had recovered from the shock.

Algy crowned her with the paper hat, read out the joke, gave her the tiny ornament from inside, and she returned to her office very happy, losing no time in telling her colleagues about Algy's crackers.

After the third day Algy took to using the fire escape whenever he could and adopted escape tactics that Gimlet would have been proud of. He had had to buy two more lots of crackers. Biggles recounted to him that his Paper hats were being used as currency. One of Algy's hats was worth an evening's baby-sitting. Another a three hour filing stint.
