Finally, they turned to Biggles. The Chatty cat licked its paw before yawning and stretching.

“Beware the Ides of March,” it said.

'It's June,' Biggles pointed out. 'Do you mean something will happen in March next year?'

Chatty Cat reluctantly climbed out of the box, and left. The Siamese disappeared in a different direction. Biggles picked up his box, his catnip mouse and his remaining cart treats and wandered back to his flat to Google Ides of March. Something about the assassination of Caesar, he thought. Et tu, Brute rang a bell.

Shortly afterwards, Biggles was deeply into google based research - he now had a date, and had sent Ginger out for a copy and commentary on the play by Will Shakespeare.
He was waiting for a call back from Bertie to see if the date rang any bells with him.

The 15th of March was a date on which debts used to be settled, Biggles read. He supposed the cats were sort of doing that. Was it a deadline? If Bertie could get through the the next nine months, would they leave him alone? The time period seemed ridiculous.

Or was it something that had happened on the 15th of March, or something that was supposed to happen and didn’t. Was there something in Bertie’s family history that was significant? Was this a long-standing feud, similar to that in Sir Leofric Landeville’s family? That had gone on for centuries. How long would cats hold grudges for?

When Ginger returned from the bookshop with a copy of Julius Caesar as well as a commentary, Biggles put them to one side and - taking Ginger with him - went off to the secondhand bookshops, instructing Ginger to help him look for in the history and genealogy sections for anything having to do with the Lissies.

Meanwhile, at Chedcombe Manor, Bertie had retired indoors to muse on the strange behaviour of the animals. Outside, they all watched each other. The cats lay concealed near doorways, determined to storm the house if a door opened.

Biggles gave up looking at the genealogical books. They were full of rampant unicorns which was no doubt of interest to those who were interested in such things, but lacking in the information he required.
He decided to go home and see what he could do to head off the forthcoming catastrophe from there.

He'd forgotten about Tibbles and managed to read on his tail when he stepped through his front door.

Tibbles made sad and reproachful noises. Biggles apologised, then remembered the cat treats. He offered one to Tibbles in reparation.

Tibbles sniffed it delicately. His tail still hurt and the treat seemed to be quite miserly. Still, it was better than nothing. He snatched the treat, crunched it down, reared upon his hind legs, dug his claws into Biggles' left leg and stretched.

Tibbles looked undecidedly at the mouse. Maybe he should exercise so he would be strong and fit for the return of his prey. Maybe the human with the treats would give him some more to help him build up his strength.

Biggles supplied another couple of treats, one of which Tibbles ate and initially ignored the others.
So, Biggles continued to play with the catnip mouse and Tibbles responded by catching it.
This went on for a few minutes before the cat decided he had had enough exercise and curled up for a quick nap.
Biggles took the opportunity to write more notes, and condensed several sheets into one, the now waste sheets he scrunched up and lobbed at the waste paper bin, Tibbles woke up when the first one hit the bin and bounced out, he chased at caught the next two. A new game, Biggles thought, throwing the next two paper balls deliberately away from the basket. They were promptly "caught and killed" ...
Algy came back in time to see the third round of prey balls launched ...
