"What happens now?" Algy asked Megan, ignoring the cat for the moment, his hands still polishing the broom.

'Dinner,' Megan answered, 'and then we'll open all the doors of the house and play tag on our brooms.'

"Excellent," Algy grinned, "But I meant that." And he nodded towards the Eye on the table.

"No," Algy said decisively. "I wouldn't know what to do with it. It's yours. If it is indeed the real thing it would be far safer in your hands than mine."

Algy shrugged. "I've managed so far without it. Sometime in my dim and distant past, we ended up in Tibet. Think Shangri-la. Since then we've been blessed with more lives than your cat. The war should have finished us off but didn't. And possession of the Eye didn't do its previous owner any good. He's now in a coma after being involved in an accident last Friday."

Megan tucked the amulet in her pocket then pulled some baby stuffed, roasted pumpkins from the oven followed by an apple pie. Algy gave no further thought to anything but the food on his plate for quite some time.

'I think so,' Algy agreed. 'Wouldn't you have to wear the amulet to be protected by it? I can't see it being useful tucked in a safe. How do you race broomsticks indoors?'

They could only ride their broomsticks indoors as it was a big old farmhouse and very sparsely furnished. Chasing after Megan did wonders for Algy's control. She could turn on a sixpence, stop in the length of her broom and lie along her broom to shoot through the top of the A made by the rafters. Algy was very impressed and determined to become at least that proficient.

He decided, reluctantly, that he wouldn't attempt that particular manoeuvre yet, even though it seemed similar to shooting under a low bridge in an aircraft.

His broomstick wanted to try it. He could tell. 'Another day,' he assured it. 'I can tell you are getting tired.'

Algy regained his feet and watched his broom arrow through the space in the rafters. It caught its tailtwigs and landed in an embarrassed fashion next to him.

His broom whisked a little around his ankles in agreement. A heavy weight landed on his shoulder. Megan's cat had decided she needed carrying back to the kitchen, too.

He put his broom away, watched it nestle in its own little space and left the shed. The cat was still draped around his shoulders, her tail occasionally switching around his face.

'You're honoured,' Megan remarked, pouring Algy a cup of tea as he walked into the kitchen. Algy sat down and waited for the cat to jump down. She didn't. She began kneading his shoulders with her paws and purring. Her tail twitched across his face whenever he opened his mouth to speak.

The cat returned to her previous position and activity, with a little added claw to make sure Algy wouldn't have the temerity to disturb her again. Algy compromised by holding her tail away from his face whilst he drank his tea.

As the two of them were companionably drinking the tea and discussing tips and tricks for improving indoor flying, there was a sudden, loud crash.
Megan glanced up at the ceiling, with a startled look. "That's odd, the wards haven't sounded"
