Biggles and the Maintenance Scheduler

Re: Biggles and the Maintenance Scheduler

Barney, Wuffles and Snookums looked outraged.

'I know it's all in your file,' Barney complained, 'but it's different when you're doing it to me.'
'Major Bigglesworth' said Von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

"I don't see why you should be any different," Biggles said, unperturbed.

They exchanged a number of looks. Biggles watched on. Finally, Barney admitted what they all knew. Their need for Biggles outweighed Biggles's need for them.

"That's not quite true, old boy," Barney contradicted. "There was a little stunt you pulled off in Monaco. Rescuing a princess, wasn't it?"

They capitulated. Biggles could have whatever he wanted. Expenses, equipment, Algy, dancing girls, whatever.

'And no Maintenance Scheduler,' Biggles said, remembering.

The Maintenance Scheduler, it appeared, was coincidence, not part of their Machiavellian scheme.

Biggles gave her a look. Tug and Tex would have recognised it straight away as his "Don’t try that line on me, it won't wash," look. Snookums didn't. Biggles never said a word. Finally, Barney interrupted. "Felicity, when one is in a hole, one should really stop digging."

"You approached me, remember,' Biggles said, unconcerned. "You wanted me to do something for you. I named my price and you don't want to pay it. That's fair enough. It's no big deal to me. I've sorted out my own problems before, and I'll sort them out again. Goodnight." And he left.
