There you go folks, k_k has just given us all an extra incentive to get-together. We need to start talking dates :D (Of course, my Aussie home time may be a bit limited this year... :D )

Thank you! I am very pleased with it. I got the picture on eBay. It had originally been listed much higher, but the seller dropped the price to only $3, and I couldn't resist! It's adorable.

Another 'Biggles in Oz' get-together...where do I sign?

While not directly Biggles related [I mentioned this event on another thread recently], Mrs OzB & I definitely have this on our 'wish list' for Saturday 13th June...all 'blow ins' are welcome, lol.

They've been working together for so long that each seems to know by a sort of telepathy when another is in trouble. One never seems to get them together. Get one & the others come after him. To give the devil his due they make a formidable team.

Huge fun - the clothes, aircraft, cars and music like a mini time bomb.

We are getting very close to a three day party celebrating the 70th Anniversary of VE Day here, starting 8th May. I believe there will be a 40's style concert in Horse Guards Parade, someone mentioned a hanger being erected flanked by Spitfires, and St Pauls being lit by searchlights again.

The next Twyford meeting will be on 9th April. The booking form can be downloaded from the website.

I am handling the programme so anyone who would like to give a talk do please get in touch with me.

If there is anyone would would like to have a talk presented but is not able to get there to do it themselves, please do contact me and I will see what we can do. ;)

If you would like to suggest a subject for a talk, please let us know.

I'm supposed to be at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire in early April, so perhaps I can get to Twyford for that weekend. It's about 4 hours away.

Hmmm, how about a talk on the archaeology of RFC/RAF airfields, or does it have to be specifically about Biggles?

That would be great, Babanango. Talks do not have to be specifically about Biggles, although some will be. I will probably give a talk about W E Johns' correspondence with his agents. Are you offering to do the airfields talk? Thrice welcome :D

Yes, I can do the talk, provided the RAF Scampton trip is confirmed. It's been on-again-off-again for the last couple of months. We're supposed to be surveying and excavating the site to record the early history of the base (100 years old this year), as well as documenting evidence of Roman occupation of the same site. Even if the dig doesn't come off as planned, I may still be going in April for training and coordination of future projects.

I'm thinking of a talk along the lines of "The Defence Archaeology Group and the Recording of Material Aviation History", or something like that. DAG have done several excavations of RAF sites with more planned, so I can do an overview of DAG and their Operation Nightingale archaeology program for disabled veterans, and some of the excavations they've done.

Here's a link to a video about the program: http://www.daguk.org/?p=440

And a link about the excavation of a crashed Battle of Britain Spitfire: http://www.daguk.org/?p=434

Looks like my dig has been shifted from RAF Scampton to Malton in Yorkshire. The week of 10 April is the initial site survey and a lot of administrative stuff, so if I get into London on 8 April I can head to Twyford first, and then go up to Yorkshire.

Is there any recommended place to stay at Twyford?

I've just returned from the Post Office, where I mailed my frame mat to Fairblue, so she can bring it to Twyford again this year. If you are attending the get-together, and you did not have a chance to sign it last year, please sign it this year. :please:

This is what it looks like so far. I hope we can collect some more signatures this year. I'll pick it up at the RAF Montrose gathering in July.

Is there a head count of who will be at the meeting? Both a total head count, and a count of those from the Forum? We shall be flying in the day before and driving out from London on the day.

There will be me, Fairblue, Lycaea and archie - anyone else going? I think there might be one other. I am handling the programme, but Joy deals with bookings and she has no email at the moment so I cannot check about numbers; hopefully her provider will sort itself out very soon :!: It is them, not her computer. :(

kk sent a mat which we signed last year. She wants any other Forum members to sign it this year. She is coming over in July and will collect it from Fairblue then. It is normally framed and on her wall I think.
